Belmont is an elegant 18th century house with views over the Kentish
Downs. Its hidden gardens range from
a pinetum complete with grotto, a walled ornamental garden, and a walled
kitchen garden with Victorian greenhouse leading to a yew-lined walk to the
family pets' graveyard.
Its very special collections echo its ownership by the
Harris family since 1801 and include mementos of their travels and posts in
India and Trinidad. The house was designed by Samuel Wyatt and includes many
novel architectural details, and one of the most extensive collections of
clocks in private hands in the country.
Specialist Clock Tours are
held on the last Saturday of every month from March to September 2008 and must
be pre-booked. Afternoon teas are served at weekends when the house is open
from 3pm. There is also a visitor centre
